Selection & Interview Process |

Candidate’s application will only be considered if all requirements listed are completed and received. Deadline for submission of requirements is December 1st. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all documents are submitted.

Members of the Selection Committee review applications as often as necessary until December 1st. Candidates are selected on the basis of academic qualifications, previous performance, letters of recommendation, communication skills, and personal qualities.

Invitations to interview are sent thought the ERAS post office by email to the candidates’ email address as indicated on the ERAS application. |

Candidates who will not be offered an interview will be notified by email through the ERAS post office email system.

The program holds interviews beginning in November through January on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday only.

We encourage in-person interviews to meet our faculty and residents and tour our training facilities in order for you to be best informed of our program. However, in exceptional cases where an applicant is unable to visit our program, we may be able to offer mainland interviews on a case by case basis. If an eligible applicant elects to travel to the Island for an interview, all costs incurred are at his/her own expense. The program may offer hotel and car rental discounts, please contact the interview coordinator for more information. |

Interview Day Details
The interview day starts at 7:30 a.m. with an informal Welcome by the Program Director, Dr. Erlaine Bello. She will answer questions about the program and life in Hawaii. Individual interviews are held from 8 to 9 a.m. with one of our faculty members. After that, candidates will be taken to QMC for a presentation on the Program by Associate Program Director, Dr. Bruce Soll. Following the presentation, a Chief Medical Resident will provide a tour of QMC. During this time, candidates will have the opportunity to drop in on MICU Rounds. They will then travel to and be given a tour of KMC by a Chief Medical Resident. This is followed by a catered lunch at either Queen’s Iolani 5 lanai or at KMC’s Hale Pulama Mau building, 8th floor conference room. This lunch is for residents and applicants only. Finally, at 2 p.m. there is a short interview day wrap-up session.
Optional activities include a Second Day tour provided by a Chief Medical Resident or upper-level resident, attending our Tuesday afternoon Academic Half Day and/or a dinner social with the residents on Wednesday evenings.
